Forbes Marshall Piston Valve

Forbes Marshall FMPRV41 Pilot-Operated Pressure Reducing Valve: Precision Steam & Air Control

The Forbes Marshall FMPRV41 is a pilot-operated, diaphragm-actuated pressure reducing valve designed to maintain precise, stable downstream pressure in saturated steam, superheated steam, and compressed air systems. Built with an SG iron body, it dynamically absorbs upstream pressure surges to ensure consistent flow and protect downstream equipment.

Available in standard and Low Capacity (LC) configurations, the FMPRV41 delivers tight, real-time pressure regulation essential for optimizing heat transfer efficiency across industrial steam headers and process lines.

Key Features & Design Advantages

  • Pilot-Operated Diaphragm Mechanism: Automatically adjusts the main valve opening based on downstream feedback, holding set pressures stable under varying flow demands.
  • Versatile Pressure Sensing: Features dual internal and external pressure sensing configurations to reduce line hunting and maintain full flow capacity.
  • Robust Material Construction: Cast with high-strength SG Iron (EN-JS1025) and internal stainless steel trim for long operational life and erosion resistance.
  • Low Capacity (LC) Option: DN15 (½") LC variants available for low-flow process applications where standard valves might operate too close to their seats.
  • Multi-Media Compatibility: Suitable for saturated steam, superheated steam, and compressed air networks.

Installation & Maintenance Guidelines

  • Pipeline Orientation: Install horizontally with the valve upright and the directional flow arrow pointing toward the downstream process.
  • Upstream Protection: Always place an upstream Y-strainer (100-mesh) and moisture separator directly before the PRV to protect the pilot mechanism from scale and condensate.
  • External Sensing Pipe: Connect the external sensing pipe to a straight run of downstream pipe (at least 8 to 10 pipe diameters away) to prevent capacity reduction and eliminate valve hunting.
  • Bypass Line: Incorporate a bypass line with isolation valves to permit inline servicing without shutting down plant operations.
